A worked example

Take a man born in 1990. Add the last two digits (9 + 0 = 9), and since the total is already a single digit, no further reduction is needed. For male profiles born in or after 2000, the formula is 10 minus that digit; for profiles born before 2000, it's 10 minus that digit again but starting from a different base number depending on the exact year cutoff used by the school of Feng Shui you follow.
